“Look what I've found!”
“Look what I've got here!”
“What's this!”

We do it automatically, hold out the treasure on our hand. I started taking pictures of what people found when they joined me on the Solway shore, and it soon became a delightful and often amusing record of our wanderings. The hands' owners are unseen in the photos, but the hands themselves are often eloquent about the owner and his or her surroundings. Wedding rings, gloves, nail varnish, or sandy fingers; whether the objects are held lovingly, or with wonder, or with an air of squeamishness ... The hands and the found objects make me smile, and I hope you will enjoy them too, and will be encouraged to go and guddle around on the shore yourselves.
